How is Babu Frik connected to the Harry Potter universe? Well, that’d be Moaning Myrtle
Many Star Wars fans fell in love with Babu Frik when they watched the Rise of Skywalker and it comes to us in the form of a Harry Potter staple: Moaning Myrtle!
Babu Frik may be the breakout star of the latest Star Wars movie but he also is connected back to the Harry Potter series in the form of Shirley Henderson. That’s right, Moaning Myrtle herself helped bring Babu Frik to life and now that you know, you cannot unhear it.
Shirley Henderson helped to bring the voice to the character and it, in turn, made Babu Frik one of those Star Wars characters that we want to know more about. Mainly because he’s funny, shirtless, and just a little guy who is ready to help them get some important Sith information out of C3PO without really asking for much other than some friends.
Talking to Vanity Fair, Henderson addressed the vocal strain that the character possessed and how she worked with a dialect coach to start to unpack how Babu Frik would sound.
"I worked with the very brilliant [dialect coach] Jill McCullough on the voice. As with J.J., I would offer up vocal suggestions and sounds and ticks, and she would remind me of them, and help me to hold onto them so that we could, on any filming day, source all these bits of Babu at a second’s notice. His voice was just a feeling I looked for inside when trying to speak as him."
But at the end of the day, we all love Babu Frik because he rolled into the world of The Rise of Skywalker, stole our hearts, and then the rest was history!
