Star Wars: Every movie in the Skywalker Saga, ranked from worst to best
4. Episode IV: A New Hope
Where would we be without A New Hope, the movie that started it all? Despite the technology having aged rather poorly, this movie will always hold a special place in our hearts — and it’s basically impossible to judge any of the awkwardness in this film when you consider how crucial it is to everything that followed (and how revolutionary it was for the time it was released).
A New Hope introduces the cast of characters that’s central to the original trilogy, but also to the films that come after — even if they play a smaller role in those. Watching Luke, Leia, and Han Solo attempt to outwit the Empire for the first time will just never get old, nor will seeing Darth Vader in his element.
There are so many iconic lines and moments from A New Hope that it’s hard to count them all — and even if it has less action or twists than the other films on this list, its humor and heart more than makes up for that fact. Objectively, A New Hope isn’t the best made of the Star Wars films, but subjectively, it’s the one that’s likely to stay with us the longest.
