Sony Pictures has delayed the release date for its Venom sequel, but the studio has also announced the film’s title: Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

The longer stay-at-home and shelter-in-place orders stay in effect, the longer production on television series and movies remains delayed — meaning many studios are beginning to push back their future release dates to give themselves more time to work on production once Hollywood returns to something resembling normalcy.

And Sony Pictures’ Venom sequel is the latest movie to push back its release date, shifting it from this October of this year to June 2021. It’s one of many superhero installments to see a delay due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) health crisis. (In fact, Matt Reeves’ The Batman also announced a change in release date this week, presumably for similar reasons.)

Although waiting a bit longer to see Tom Hardy back in action is a little disappointing, at least one positive development came out of the announcement: Sony Pictures also released the title for the second Venom movie, which will be called Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

Given that the sequel will focus on Woody Harrelson’s Carnage as the villain, the title makes sense, even if it’s a bit on the corny side. While it’s likely to be a while before fans get any more details about the movie — especially with everything on hold — this little tidbit may have to hold us over. And it, unfortunately, doesn’t tell us much that we didn’t already know.

Along with Hardy and Harrelson, Michelle Williams will be reprising her role in the upcoming sequel, and Andy Serkis will direct the film. Apart from the Venom vs. Carnage aspect of the film, plot details are fairly sparse. Now that Venom 2 won’t arrive until next year, they may stay that way for a while. But, hey, this does give us plenty of time to rewatch the first one….
