Our very own Remus Lupin has quite the career and when David Thewlis showed up in Wonder Woman as Aries, it was a bit of a shock for fans of the Harry Potter series. Why is that?

David Thewlis, as we know, was Remus Lupin in the Harry Potter series but now, he’s more than that. Well, to be fair, he was always more than that but he had taken on another big character from another franchise and thus us nerds had something else to unpack: David Thewlis as Aries in Wonder Woman.

Within Wonder Woman, Aries is a brother of Diana Prince’s and the God of War. During the film, he convinced mortals to fight in wars they should have never been a part of because that is just part of his nature. Which, for us as Harry Potter fans, was so shocking. The minute we met Remus Lupin, he was sweet and caring. He wanted to protect Harry Potter for the sake of his friends.

James and Lily Potter had one son and Remus Lupin and Sirius Black were ready to protect him. So to see our Remus Lupin suddenly thrown into a world where he is willing to tear down men and fight against Diana was a bit of a contrast. That being said, Thewlis did an incredible job bringing Aries to life.

So yes, he might not be Lupin anymore but he’s always going to be a favorite and seeing him in new roles is amazing.

Do you think that David Thewlis just will always be Remus Lupin to us all? Or will we eventually get over the shock of seeing him outside of the Harry Potter series? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
