SYFY announces full-series marathons for Xena and Battlestar Galactica
By Shaun Stacy
SYFY announced that Lucy Lawless and Tricia Helfer will host binge-worthy events featuring all seasons of their respective shows, Xena: Warrior Princess and Battlestar Galactica, along with some bonus material.
Just when you thought you were running out of things to binge-watch, SYFY has revealed that it is planning full-season marathons for cult hits Xena: Warrior Princess and Battlestar Galactica. In addition to all episodes of every season, each marathon will include host commentary, surprise guest appearances, custom content, and series catch-ups. As a bonus, SYFY WIRE’s podcast, Battlestar Galacticast, has put together a bonus episode to serve as a cast reunion along with a live reading of the Battlestar Galactica pilot episode, “33.”
This will be the first time Xena has aired on the SYFY network, which will headline its #ThrowbackThursday marathons of all six seasons. The episodes will air every Thursday morning and afternoon starting April 16. Xena herself, Lucy Lawless, will host the marathon, providing wrap-ups and appearing alongside surprise guest appearances.
Xena originally aired from 1995-2001 and starred Lawless as the eponymous warrior princess and Renee O’Connor as Xena’s “sidekick,” Gabrielle. It was definitely one of the first examples of what we now know as modern feminist television, with Xena herself becoming a feminist icon and influencing the television landscape for years.
The award-winning Battlestar Galactica will air in its entirety, including the two-part miniseries, all four seasons of the series, and the final movie “The Plan” in a non-stop binge taking place over the course of three days. The marathon will begin Monday, April 20 at 12 a.m. ET and run through Thursday, April 23 at 9 a.m. ET. Star Tricia Helfer will host the marathon, along with special surprise appearances and custom content throughout.
The bonus episode will air Monday, April 20 and feature a reunion of cast members including Edward James Olmos, James Callis, Jamie Bamber, Katee Sackhoff, Michael Trucco, Rekha Sharma, and more. The cast is also slated to perform a live reading of the series’ pilot episode, “33.”
This is a great opportunity for lifelong fans to revisit their favorite moments of both shows, along with helping new viewers experience the worlds of Xena and Battlestar Galactica for the very first time. Both shows are currently available for streaming in their entirety via SYFY.com and NBCU’s OneApp.
