Season 3 of HBO’s Westworld continues this Sunday, as the infamous Man in Black finally returns to our screens in “The Mother of Exiles”.
As season 3 of Westworld continues, a fan favorite character finally returns. But to what end, we’re not entirely sure yet.
The season’s fourth episode is entitled “Mother of Exiles” and will apparently feature the return of Ed Harris as the Man in Black. William has been surprisingly absent for most of this season, as the show’s focus has turned to the real world rather than the world of the Delos parks.
On some level, this makes sense, as the primary hook of the season has involved Dolores and the other hosts’ escape into the real world. But the Man in Black has been such a big part of the series’ first two seasons that it feels extremely strange for him to be this absent.
The official synopsis is pretty straightforward on the surface – in many ways it’s a mantra for Westworld as a whole – but it also doesn’t exactly give us any idea of what to expect in terms of the episode’s story.
"The truth doesn’t always set you free."
The trailer for “Mother of Exiles” not only touts the long-awaited return of Harris and his character, but also implies that something fairly major is going on with him.
Whichever version – host or human – this turns out to be.
Intriguingly, the Man in Black seems to be almost completely separated from the rest of whatever else is gone in the story – which seems to be a mix of a very fancy party and possibly Maeve in the midst of a gunfight.
Just another Sunday on Westworld, right?
How will whatever journey he’s on fit into the rest of the season? We’ll have to tune in and find out.
