Book to film: How did the Harry Potter series do with bringing the two to life?
The debate between the books and the movies with the Harry Potter series is always a hot topic but how did the movies end up giving the books justice in the long run?
When it comes to Harry Potter, there are fans who swear by the books and fans who swear by the movies. Sometimes, you get a happy middle ground where someone likes both, but it’s normally an even divide because let’s be honest: They’re completely different.
With most book to film adaptations, things get left out. With the Harry Potter series, that is very much the case. From the ghosts to the house elves and beyond, a lot of this series is different in the movies. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing but it does make a divide like this possible.
There are so many that don’t realize there were so many differences from one book to the movie and so on and so forth so it creates this tension. Sure, we all love the same characters but there are specific storylines that are so different that we might not really know any better.
Look at Hermione Granger. S.P.E.W. is nowhere in the films so fans do not even know that aspect of her character. If they didn’t read Cursed Child or Deathly Hallows, they don’t know about her becoming the Minister of Magic.
There is just so much that is left out of the movies that fans of just the movies may not even know because it wasn’t on their radar. Alas, maybe someday our worlds can join as one.
