The fight against coronavirus is ongoing, but Rihanna’s Clara Lionel Foundation has donated $5 million toward efforts to lessen the impact of the disease.

The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak seems to be escalating faster than most countries can contain it, and celebrities and organizations alike have begun donating to aid in the fight against the disease. Rihanna’s Clara Lionel Foundation is one of the latest donors to support the cause, giving $5 million to organizations attempting to lessen the impact of the disease.

According to Entertainment Weekly, this sum of money will be distributed to numerous organizations, including Partners in Health, the World Health Organization’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund, Direct Relief, Feeding America, and more. It will be used to ensure local food banks have enough resources to feed people, and it will also provide countries with test kits and medical supplies.

Upon donating this money, the foundation released a statement saying, “When we first began this year, never could we have imagined how COVID-19 would do dramatically alter our lives. It doesn’t matter who you are or where you’re from, this pandemic will affect us all. And for the world’s most vulnerable, the worst may be yet to come.”

It also shared the news to Instagram, listing which organizations will benefit from the funds.

During times of crisis, it’s always comforting to see those with the means stepping up to do what’s right. Rihanna may be the latest celebrity to help, but she’s certainly not the only one. Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, as well as Lady Gaga and Justin Beiber, have also recently offered aid. We might have a ways to go before overcoming the current health crisis, but donations like these go a long way toward making progress.
