Everyone has the character they want to be in the Harry Potter series and sometimes, you have to realize that you’re not that character. Sometimes, you’re like me and you’re a Ron Weasley.

I always wanted to be a Hermione Granger when I was growing up but quickly realized that the reason I hated Ron Weasley was because I was Ron. Always the friend with a joke and one who didn’t really like to take things seriously, I understood Ron.

That doesn’t mean I like him. I don’t want to be the funny best friend in life. I wanted to be the smart girl who saved the day or the dramatic hero that held the world on his shoulders. Instead, I was quick with a joke and great at meaningless games.

Sure, Ron Weasley had a lot to do throughout the run of the Harry Potter series but let’s be honest, he’s the comedic relief. And realizing that you’re the comedic relief of life? That’s going to take a toll on anyone.

Certainly did for me. I like being funny, like making people laugh but still, thinking about how I am always the funny one was a hard thing to swallow. Now though, I have realized that it is okay to be Ron Weasley. Because Ron Weasley was the kind of character who was great enough to get amazing friends like Hermione Granger and Harry Potter so being like Ron can’t be that bad, right? At least you get to hang out with Harry and Hermione.

Next. Hermione Granger is great but also isn't a perfect character. dark
