Great British Baking Show

Everyone knows that the Food Network is the place to go for quality comfort TV (right?), but if you’re looking to shake things up from the Chopped and Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives reruns, let me introduce you to the Great British Baking Show. If you’ve somehow missed this international phenomenon, it’s a baking competition that takes place in the British countryside and is inexplicably relaxing. I don’t know the logic behind it, but there is seriously no better way to tune out the rest of the world than by watching people make bread and pastries.

Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings

Did you know that there is a Netflix mini-series inspired by eight of Dolly Parton’s hit songs? Yes, it’s true. And yes, it’s just as amazing as it sounds. Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings will get you in all your feelings from the moment those first familiar chords of “Jolene” start to play. Each episode is a new story about love, struggle, mystery, and hope that will truly tug at your heartstrings and restore your faith in humanity.

The Get Down

This supremely underrated Netflix original will have you on your feet and dancing in no time. It may have only gotten two seasons (Netflix, please, I beg you … stop cancelling all your good shows after two seasons), but it’s an absolute joy that you’ll want to watch over and over again. Take a trip to the South Bronx as a group of teenagers try to find their place in the emerging hip-hop and disco music scenes of the 1970s.
