Jurassic World: Dominion and other Universal live-action filming put on hold
Following the lead of other major studios, Universal has put filming for live-action movies, including Jurassic World: Dominion, on hold for now.
Universal Pictures has followed Disney and Netflix’s lead in putting all of its live-action film productions on hold in lieu of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, Variety reports. As of Friday, all of the studio’s upcoming films — including Jurassic World: Dominion — are on hold until further notice. Other projects impacted by this decision include Flint Strong and the Billy Eichner film that’s currently in the works.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio released a statement regarding its decision to delay filming, reading: “The studio continues to monitor the situation closely and will make a determination on when to restart production in the coming weeks.”
Given that many of the major live-action projects being put on hiatus were in the early stages of production, it’s unclear if this delay will have any affect on the movies’ release dates. Prior to this, Universal Pictures did push back one of its upcoming blockbusters, however, moving Fast and Furious 9 from May 2020 to April 2021.
The entertainment industry as a whole has seen some pretty serious cancellations and delays over the past few weeks, all of them attempts to slow the spread of coronavirus and keep cast and crew members safe during these trying times. Not only have television networks and streaming services delayed production on upcoming series, but blockbuster films like No Time to Die, The New Mutants, and Mulan have been pushed back from their original release dates.
It’s unclear when the industry will resume regular operations at this time, but most places are advising people to stay indoors for at least a few weeks.
