Nancy Drew

If the original Veronica Mars series were to take place today, Nancy Drew would be that show with added supernatural elements. Based on the classic literary character of the same name, the series follows a now 18-year-old Nancy, played by Kennedy McMann, as she puts her college plans on hold and finds herself at the center of a ghostly mystery in her hometown. She and her four friends, who are suspects and witnesses alike to a murder, team up to find the real culprit.

The series was developed by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, who are also responsible for such teen TV classics as The O.C., Gossip Girl, and Marvel’s Runaways. Additional cast members include Alex Saxon, Riley Smith, Scott Wolf, and The Vampire Diaries alum Sara Canning (RIP Aunt Jenna).

The show does an excellent job of updating Nancy’s story for today’s generation and combines it with a classic whodunnit feel, making it accessible to viewers of all ages. The storytelling never feels trite, and the cast includes a diverse group of characters who never feel dumbed down. Nancy Drew is currently available for streaming through The CW app.
