Roswell, New Mexico

Although we’ve all seen our fair share of reboots and revivals, the quality does vary by project. For every The L Word: Generation Q, there’s also a Heroes Reborn. Roswell, New Mexico is a reboot of the ’90s Roswell television series that starred Shiri Appleby and Katherine Heigl. Both were based on the Roswell High book series written by Melinda Metz.

The series has been modernized and takes a close look at the lives of Mexican immigrants living in the United States. The updating of the storyline and inclusion of more minority characters doesn’t feel forced, but more of an extension of the main plot of the show. Okay, there are also hot aliens, too.

Roswell, New Mexico centers around Liz Ortecho, played by Jeanine Mason, a jaded biomedical researcher who is the daughter of undocumented immigrants. As in the first series, Liz discovers that her teenage crush, Max Evans (Nathan Parsons), is an alien who has kept his abilities under wraps his entire life until he is forced to reveal himself to Liz in order to save her life.

The two start to reconnect but discover an alien threat following a violent attack causing Liz and Max to work together to find the truth. The cast also includes Pretty Little Liars alum Tyler Blackburn, Heather Hemmens, and The Vampire Diaries alum Michael Trevino. The entire first season is available for streaming through The CW app, with season two premiering March 16.
