Tom Hanks shares status update and encouragement from Australia
Given the concern surrounding Tom Hanks testing positive for coronavirus, the actor shared an encouraging status update for worried fans.
If there’s one thing most of the entertainment industry can agree on, it’s that Tom Hanks is a treasure. That’s why so many expressed concerns when the actor made an announcement earlier this week that he and his wife, Rita Wilson, had tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and would be isolating themselves for the time being.
In his Instagram post revealing his diagnosis, Hanks assured fans that the pair would “keep the world posted and updated” — and he’s followed through on that promise. In another social-media post, Hanks gave an update on the couple’s status and shared some words of encouragement during these troubling times.
In a statement shared on Twitter, the actor wrote, “Rita Wilson and I want to thank everyone here Down Under who are taking such good care of us. We have Covid-19 and are in isolation so we do not spread it to anyone else. There are those for whom it could lead to a very serious illness. We’re taking it one-day-at-a-time.”
It’s a relief to hear that Hanks and Wilson are managing in spite of everything, but the actor also shared a message to everyone else coping with the outbreak: “There are things we can all do to get through this, by following the advice of experts and taking care of each other, no? Remember, despite all the current events, there is no crying in baseball. Hanx.”
Hanks’ advice to listen to the experts and care for our fellow human beings rings true, and the latter part is remniscent of his inspiration Golden Globes speech. Hanks always seems concerned with other people, and he brings a sense of community with him that’s much needed during trying times.
