The Falcon and the Winter Soldier delays production in lieu of coronavirus concerns
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is the latest project to delay production in light of the coronavirus outbreak.
The novel coronavirus outbreak has seemingly impacted every corner of the film and television industries, from pushing production and release dates back to canceling and postponing conventions and festivals. And the latest series to take a hit due to the disease is Marvel Studios’ The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The Disney+ series had just begun filming in Prague, but production came to a halt after the city put travel and gathering restrictions in place.
The timing is unfortunate, as The Falcon and the Winter Soldier completed much of its filming in Atlanta already and would only need a week or so to wrap up its work in Prague. With the cast and crew sent home, it’s unclear when and if production will pick up there again — though if the government is recommending it, it’s probably in everyone’s best interest to stay put for now anyway.
With the series scheduled to debut on Disney+ in August, however, fans have to wonder whether the release date for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will be pushed back, or if the showrunners will decide to film the scenes set for Prague elsewhere. Disney has yet to push back any of its other Marvel projects over the outbreak, so it seems more likely the creative team will need to rethink whatever scenes they’d planned on filming in Prague.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will pick up with Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes after the events of Avengers: Endgame, chronicling Sam’s reluctant journey to becoming the new Captain America. There’s no official premiere date yet, though if all goes according to plan, it should arrive this August.
