Zoë Kravitz in High Fidelity is a beautiful look at complicated characters
High Fidelity was a movie that gave way to the idea of toxic masculinity and the Zoë Kravitz Hulu show of the same name gives new life to the idea of Rob and what the character represents.
Harry Potter fans loved when Zoë Kravitz brought Leta Lestrange to life and now she’s taking on the world of music. Well, sort of. In the context of High Fidelity, Rob (Kravitz) owns her own record store and, pretty much, always makes her life more difficult than it needs to be.
Which, to be honest, is a beautiful way of bring to life the film version of High Fidelity that stars John Cusack as Rob. In the movie, toxic masculinity reigns supreme so to see Kravitz’s Rob manage to give that same energy to the character without it being about toxic masculinity is brilliant.
It’s also just wonderful to see Zoë Kravitz do anything. She’s one of the few actresses out there who always brings a brilliant performance no matter what she’s in. Whether it’s Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald or High Fidelity or even Big Little Lies, she’s always giving us her all.
While High Fidelity is a new show, I have a feeling it will be around for a while because it just manages to bring to life this new complicated character and give life to her love of music much in the same way the movie did. It’s a fun watch, you end up loving the story even if you don’t necessarily agree with everything that Rob does, and it’s just a beautiful portrayal from Kravitz!
