Two secret Westworld trailers offer even more hints about season 3
By Lacy Baugher
As the premiere of Westworld season 3 nears, clues about the new episodes keep popping up – including in a pair of secret trailers discovered last week.
Westworld season 3 is almost here. Which means its time for the series’ fans to start their speculation engines about what kind of story the new episodes might tell.
Happily, it turns out that we’ve got more clues on that score than we initially thought. Including from a pair of secret trailers hidden deep in a privacy policy on a tertiary series website.
The Westworld promotions team is honestly ridiculous, sometimes. But I don’t think we’d have it any other way.
A canny reddit user – reminder to never, ever discount this fandom’s reddit community, y’all – discovered the hidden trailers last week and, naturally, the internet has been abuzz ever since with what they might mean.
This second clip, hidden on a website for one of the show’s fictitious in-universe companies, known as Incite, Inc. The site itself is surprisingly robust, offering fans lots of information about data and privacy services and also a place to sign-up for a “demo” for yourself.
The trailer there, called “Free Will is Not Free,” may actually be better than the full trailer that dropped last week. It’s packed full of cliche sayings like “Disruption is Not Change” and “Chaos is Not Revolution” that run over a some intriguing new footage – including the Man in Black now dressed in white and being tortured and our first shot of Luke Hemsworth’s return.
The second secret clip is much, much sillier, and re-imagines Westworld as a sort of dystopian romantic comedy, featuring a meet cute between Evan Rachel Wood’s Dolores and newcomer Aaron Paul’s Caleb.
In short: This is nothing you’d ever expect to see in the world of Westworld. Which is part of the reason why it’s so much fun to watch.
For the eagle-eyed among you, that clip isn’t just wildly funny – which it is – it also offers us some additional season 3 clues. For starters, there’s a scene in which it certainly appears as though Dolores and Caleb are back in the park, as well as at a vaguely Eyes Wide Shut-esque party together, before…well, apparently blowing up a bunch of stuff.
As the premiere date for season 3 creeps closer – March 15!! – we should all maybe expect a few more of these “hidden” trailers to surface. There’s no show that loves making its audience work for it quite like this one – and it’s part of the reason we can’t wait to see it back on our screens.
Westworld season 3 premieres March 15 at 9pm ET on HBO.
