The creepiness continues: Are You Afraid of the Dark? reboot gets a second season

Nickelodeon has renewed its reboot of Are You Afraid Of The Dark? for a second season, and it makes our nostalgia-loving hearts happy.

It’s a right of passage that we should all be scared out of our minds as children watching Are You Afraid Of The Dark?

And thankfully, that right of passage will continue for the younger generation, as Nickelodeon has announced its reboot of Are You Afraid Of The Dark? has been renewed for a second season.

For those of you who may not have realized, yes, there was a reboot of the classic ‘90s TV show this past fall. It aired as a three-episode miniseries on Friday nights and was the perfect lead-up to Halloween.

And it was so good. It was the perfect mix of campy and creepy, but not as over the top as it could have been. It was also an interesting twist on things. Yes, it did introduce a brand-new Midnight Society, and they’re trying to recruit a new member, whose story she tells bleeds into real life the very next day as the carnival she made up in her story comes to town.

Let’s just say even at almost 30 years of age, Mr. Tophat still had his moments that creeped me out and made me turn on the lights in the middle of an episode.

We all have those episode of the show that scared us silly. For me, it was The Tale of Laughing in the Dark, which is only the second episode of the show. And you can bet that I barely watched any other episodes until I was much older.

So, what will this second season of Are You Afraid Of The Dark? entail? Its first season was more of a miniseries than anything. It would be interesting to see the series tackle the miniseries format, having one coherent plot through the few episodes.

Or taking it back to the episodic format would also make this nostalgic Millennial happy. The show set up its characters so well in season one, it would be nice to see each of the other members of the Midnight Society try their hand at telling their own stories. And give us more fuel for our nightmares.
