In a risky move for the VH1 darling, RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars moves to Showtime for season 5 this summer.

In a surprising announcement, RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars will reportedly jump ship this summer, leaving VH1 behind for premium cable channel Showtime. Season five of All Stars is said to be a “special-edition” season and kicks off June 5 at 8 p.m. ET/PT after the season 12 finale of RuPaul’s Drag Race on VH1.

Like past seasons, the show will continue to showcase sickening lip sync battles, memorable lewks, and all the shady moments audiences come to love. Queens from previous seasons will return for a second chance at winning the Drag Race crown and win the $100,000 cash prize.

This may seem like a bit of a shock to fans of the show, since it previously left the abandoned LGBTQ+ channel Logo to VH1 to help the series find a broader audience and get more cultural recognition — which it did. Although Showtime and VH1 are sister companies, it still seems odd that a reality cable show would switch from a basic cable network, where it is both a commercial and critical darling, to a paid premium cable channel.

Rupaul’s Drag Race All Stars will be debuting during Pride Month, alongside Showtime’s current lineup of LGBTQ+ shows such as Shameless and the successful The L Word: Generation Q revival. VH1 will still air season 12 of RuPaul’s Drag Race starting February 28 at 8 p.m. ET/PT. This season has an impressive roster of guest judges already lined up including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Daisy Ridley, Robyn, and Jeff Goldblum.
