Star Trek: Picard: The Last Best Hope by Una McCormack

With the television series Star Trek: Picard premiering last month, it’s no surprise the franchise is looking to attract fans through every form of media. And anyone looking for more of Jean-Luc Picard can pick up Una McCormack’s novel,The Last Best Hope, when it comes out on February 11.

McCormack’s novel ties into the CBS series, evidently leading up to the events that occur onscreen. Plot details are sparse in the synopsis, but it does suggest that fans will get to know new characters from the series a bit better by reading it. The description of the book reads:

"“A thrilling novel leading into the new CBS series, Una McCormack’s The Last Best Hope introduces you to brand new characters featured in the life of beloved Star Trek captain Jean-Luc Picard—widely considered to be one of the most popular and recognizable characters in all of science fiction.”"

Whatever adventures Picard and his comrades find themselves on, they’re bound to be exciting — if only because Picard is involved. While spin-off series can sometimes hurt a franchise, it looks as though McCormack’s will add something positive to the new TV series. And I’ll say it one more time: How can we possibly complain about more Picard?
