Disney+ dropped a Marvel teaser during the Super Bowl last night that gave fans their first glimpse of its upcoming series.

Last night’s Super Bowl had plenty of ads and trailers to keep viewers occupied during breaks, but one of the most exciting trailers to drop was Disney+’s Marvel teaser. Marvel fans are patiently (or not-so-patiently) awaiting the many series coming to the streaming platform within the next year or two, and last night, they got their first glimpse at some of the most anticipated ones.

Footage from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, WandaVision, and Loki were all featured in the quick TV spot, and although it didn’t give much context in regard to the plots of these series, it was nice to see what Marvel has been working on at long last. It also gave us enough footage to begin speculating on plot details and character arcs — so speculate we will!

So, what did we learn about each of the three series featured?

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier

The Disney+ Marvel preview opens, fittingly, with Captain America’s shield, but it’s quickly picked up and thrown by Sam Wilson — the new Captain America, at least according to what Steve Rogers wanted. It’s impressive how Sam manages to wield that shield, and we can’t wait to see him in action with it.

There’s also a shot of Bucky brandishing a gun at someone, as well as a glimpse of both Sam and Bucky, both of them looking like they’ve been discovered somewhere they aren’t supposed to be. From recent set photos, we know the United States government won’t be fully behind Sam as the new Cap — could that have anything to do with what we see here?

WandaVision

WandaVision is said to be a sitcom series, and everything shown in the new teaser trailer backs that up. We see several renditions of Wanda Maximoff, all of which give nods to classic sitcoms, including I Love Lucy, The Brady Bunch, and Family Ties. (And let’s not forget that shot of Wanda in Scarlet Witch’s comic costume!) If nothing else, this series looks to be a comical one that sitcom fans will appreciate — though it’s hard to wrap one’s head around what the plot will be, and how it will play into everything else happening in the MCU.

There is a quick moment during which it seems like Wanda and Vision are back to their usual selves: when standing in front of a black-and-white television screen. Perhaps this should tell us something about what’s to come, but right now, we just have more questions.

Loki

Loki’s upcoming series, unlike Wanda’s, seems to be a bit darker than the other two — at least if his single line from the teaser is anything to go by. The Marvel TV spot ends with Loki smiling and saying, “I’m going to burn this place to the ground.” Typical.

What’s interesting though is that Loki appears to be wearing a prison uniform in the shot, something fans have connected with an organization called the Time Variance Authority. In the comics, this group is tasked with protecting the various timelines of the MCU — and given that Loki is traveling through them, it makes sense they’d be after him. It’s possible this is the enemy he’ll be up against during the miniseries. And it seems like they’d make a powerful enemy, indeed.
