The Good Place series finale preview: The end of the line
The Good Place ends its four-season run this week with back-to-back episodes. What can we expect in the last 40-odd minutes of the show?
Ladies and gentlemen, we have reached the end of the line of The Good Place. It’s a bittersweet farewell, one for which we would never be prepared even if the show ran for another six seasons (and a movie!).
But it also feels right, ending on their own terms rather than waiting for a cancellation notice in the offseason.
Before we get too weepy, here is the last official synopsis for this episode, “Whenever You’re Ready,” courtesy of NBC:
"“Various conversations occur, between various groups of people”"
I mean, hey, look at us. We made it this far. The Good Place started as a simple idea of a bad person accidentally making it into the Good Place. And then it flipped itself on its head and became something completely different–a new form of torture.
After that, we watched a demon become humanized and everyone discover that the point system that’s been in place for hundreds of thousands of years is just a little outdated (or, on a higher level: there is no ethical consumption under consumerism).
This past season has been proving that the point system needs to be thrown out the window. And now that we’ve finally seen and settled into the actual Good Place… where do we go from here?
Do we watch our human friends walk through the new mystery door they created and simply end their existence? Does Michael find an even crazier way to liven things up in heaven? Does the Good Place committee ever show back up again?
Truth be told, I have no idea what will happen in these last two episodes. All I can say for certain is that we’re going to shed a heck of a lot of tears along the way.
