Never forget this biggest book to movie change: Dumbledore
You know what fans of the Harry Potter series will never get over? Albus Dumbledore yelling at Harry Potter in the Goblet of Fire movie. Never. We don’t forget.
Dumbledore calmly asking Harry Potter if he put his name in the Goblet of Fire was something that many fans remember from reading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Mainly because it showed that Dumbledore trusted Harry and knew he wouldn’t do something so idiotic as going against the rules and submitting himself for the Triwizard Tournament.
So why then did the movies have Dumbledore running into the room screaming at Harry? It is something we may never know. In the fourth installment to the Harry Potter franchise, we watched as a scene drastically changed from page to screen.
To be quite honest, it felt like a complete misunderstanding of the character. Albus Dumbledore Is the kind of man who was aloof, often did wrong by Harry, but made sure that he had his support when needed. Like when everyone thought Harry put his name in for a tournament he wasn’t allowed to be in.
So why then did the movies change it? Probably because they wanted the drama added to it as if Harry Potter’s life wasn’t dramatic enough as is. It is probably one of the few instances in the series that fans continually bring up because it was upsetting to watch as Dumbledore yelled at Harry and not believe him.
I’ll never understand this change, I don’t like it, and the fact that it is something we’ve had to deal with? Rude.
