Falcon and the Winter Soldier set photos show a new Captain America, but it’s not Sam Wilson
New set photos from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier reveal a new Captain America — but it’s not Sam Wilson wearing the suit this time.
After saying farewell to Chris Evans’ Captain America during Avengers: Endgame, many Marvel fans are looking forward to a future with Sam Wilson at the head of the Avengers team. Cap left his shield to the younger hero, bestowing his legacy — and all the responsibilities that come with it — upon him, and that’s something that’s bound to be explored in the Disney Plus series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
New set photos from the series, however, suggest that the world may see another Captain America before Wilson truly takes on the role. It seems the show will be including comic character John Walker, a U.S. agent being touted as the next Captain America by the government. Played by Wyatt Russell, Walker will take up Captain America’s shield and put on an outfit strikingly similar to his — but whether his influence as a symbol could ever match that of Steve Rogers is a different story entirely.

While Marvel Studios hasn’t revealed much about the plot of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, it’s possible these photos tell us a thing or two about the events that will unfold. For one, we have to assume the world is concerned without Iron Man and Captain America present to protect them. Why else would the U.S. government bring this guy around to replace Cap?
Likewise, it’s curious that officials don’t seem to be backing Wilson’s claim to Cap’s legacy — at least, not if these photos are anything to go by. Is this refusal to accept him as the new Captain America going to be the obstacle Wilson faces during his new series? And if so, does that make Walker the villain?
There are still plenty of questions that need to be answered, but these set photos do paint an interesting picture for the Avengers team going forward. They’ve been at odds with the U.S. government for some time now, and it doesn’t look like those tensions are easing up. At least it makes for interesting conflict.
