Motherland: Fort Salem brings witch lore into a new age. Their witches are soldiers on the front line of a war that sends recruits into early deployment.

On March 18, Freeform will become a witch’s place with the debut of Motherland: Fort Salem. The series will delve into an alternate history where the witches of Salem strike a deal with the government that brings them into the fold of military service.

Instead of being persecuted and subjected to trials, the witches become soldiers bound to serve and protect their country. They are the magical defense between the country’s enemies and work to keep its people safe. But when a terrorist group called The Spree uses their powers to kill innocents, tensions begin to rise, putting the witches work and patriotism in question with America’s fearful human citizens.

The rest of the cast will be rounded out by Lyne Renee in a recurring role as General Sarah Alder, the highest ranking officer in the Armed Forces — Alder has served for 300 years — and the only leader the witches have ever had; Anacostia (Demetria McKinney), a drill sergeant whose main job is getting recruits through basic training with their lives intake; and Scylla (Amalia Holm), a recruit who isn’t all she seems.
