The Good Place only has four episodes remaining until it ends for good. How will the show once again flip our expectations?

We only have three weeks left of new episodes of The Good Place. And its series finale is back-to-back extended episodes. It’s hard to fathom this ray of light ending for good, but it will be here sooner than we want it.

We have already theorized plenty about how The Good Place will end its run. And while that particular theory is a little outdated since this last experiment ended halfway through the season, that idea might not be too far off.

In this week’s episode, we had our crew pitching their new idea for the afterlife, which is basically just the basis of the show we’ve watched for four seasons. Which again, isn’t far off from that theory about everything going white and starting over again.

But, as always, The Good Place will subvert our expectations. Do you really expect these last four episodes to be the Soul Squad building out the afterlife and working out the kinks?

Oh no. There is a very solid possibility that halfway through next week’s episode, they’ll be doing trial runs on it and discovering that it doesn’t actually work and people don’t actually get better. Just our four humans.

And where will that leave the show? Spiraling, of course. Resetting itself for the umpteenth time. But with four episodes to do, can they make that kind of risk worth it?

There’s always the possibility that everything will work out perfectly and the new afterlife works seamlessly. Then what? Can our four humans become architects and help design new Medium Places for the recently deceased? That would be a fun turn of events.

But while The Good Place has always focused on the good in things, it hasn’t always been a positive-ending kind of show.

Something is always left hanging. Is there any kind of ending that would work leaving things vague enough that viewers still feel satisfied?

With The Good Place, anything is possible.
