10 video games we can’t wait to get our hands on in 2020
The amount of anticipated video games that are scheduled to release in 2020 are at a high point. Here’s a guide to the 10 games we can’t wait for.
It seems like every year, the video games that are on the horizon for the next twelve months are too exciting for us to handle. We thought so in 2019, and 2020 is no different.
In fact, 2020 might be even crazier.
If you love anything and everything about video games, the very thought of 2020 has you salivating. From games we’ve been wanting for years to remakes, we’re not sure we have enough time to play everything…
Here are our 10 games that we can’t wait to play in 2020!
Cyberpunk 2077
Everyone’s been clamoring for this new Cyberpunk game since it was originally announced in 2012. It’s been seven years since this game was announced, and fans have patiently waited to hop back into this world ever since.
The game finally picked up some steam in 2018 when a second trailer was released, and then excitement hit the fan at this year’s E3, when the internet’s current boyfriend, Keanu Reeves, came out to introduce the it — and to show us that he’s also in the game.
All we’re saying is that everything for this game points to hours upon hours of our lives that will be poured into playing it. And we already have zero regrets. Cyberpunk 2077 releases on April 16.
Avengers
Square Enix’s new Avengers game has nothing to do with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but that doesn’t make it any less exciting. Each new trailer that comes out has fans even more interested than before, even if the characters don’t look like their MCU counterparts and never will.
That doesn’t matter — the trailers for this game look fantastic. The storyline differs from everything we’ve seen in the MCU so far. Heck, we’re getting Kamala Khan! I’ve been dying to see her in the MCU!
Square Enix has already said it’s committed to improving and expanding the game after release, which means if this game truly is as good as it looks, this may become one of the best superhero games out there. Avengers comes out on May 15.
Doom Eternal
It’s been years since 2016’s Doom when you start playing Doom Eternal. And no one really thought we’d be here. But Doom was such a surprise hit that Doom Eternal makes our shortlist.
Critics got to play it at this year’s E3, and the majority of them were impressed with the fast-paced action and the graphics — and some of the new killing techniques players now have up their sleeves.
Plus, what’s better than slaughtering a bunch of demons? Especially if there are a bunch of new demons to take down, too. This one hits stores March 20.
The Last Of Us Part II
With The Last of Us being one of the best games of the past decade, the hype is high for its sequel — which, yes, has already been delayed from a February 2020 release to an end of May 2020 release.
Part II has plenty to live up to, and the trailers make it look like it’s up to the task. It’s been years since Ellie and Joel made their escape from the Firefly facility, and while Ellie may have found her place in the world at last, the world at large still suffers from all of the issues that plagued it before.
Which means we’re still going to have to deal with clickers and having that noise haunt our dreams for months on end. This releases on May 29.
Ghost of Tsushima
Ghost of Tsushima also graced our list of games to play in 2019, and it still stands tall in 2020, even if it doesn’t have a solid release date yet.
So what’s the point of this game? The Mongol Empire has taken over the island of Tsushima. You play as one of the last samurai and have to fight of the invasion and change your traditional fighting tactics to the “ways of the ghost.”
Everything about this game looks absolutely gorgeous, and we can’t wait to get our hands on it and just take everything in. It’s supposedly coming our way during Q2 or Q3 of 2020.
Final Fantasy VII remake
Like we said last year, fans have been clamoring for this remake since its demo video for the Playstation 3, and 2020 will be the year it’s finally delivered.
Keep in mind, this Final Fantasy VII remake is a complete remake of the original game. All of the basics remain with the same characters that fans know and love, but the enhancements are what we can’t wait for — and are still being kept fairly under wraps. The game was playable at this year’s E3 — though it certainly didn’t show enough — and the reactions were almost all positive.
Fans can only hope the thing isn’t delayed anymore and we can finally play it ourselves. As of right now, it’s releasing on March 3.
Nioh 2
The first Nioh was praised highly for its combat, aesthetics and use of Japanese folklore, and it set a high bar for anything that would follow.
That goes for its sequel, Nioh 2, set to be released on March 13. A beta opened for a short amount of time in November, and reactions from players were pretty positive. We can only hope that Nioh 2 only builds on what the first one put in place… even if it is a prequel.
Dreams
Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Dreams will arrive and potentially change everything you know and expect from a video game.
It’s a game universe where you get to unleash your creativity and build games of your own for others to play. From games to music to anything else you can imagine, Dreams will offer it in some form.
It’s a break from the standard mold — and we think it’s going to be worth it. Look out for it on February 14.
Diablo IV
The Diablo series is a storied one. Recently, I sat through a 30-minute conversation with my husband and two of his longtime friends at a wedding, discussing how much time they pored into Diablo II back in the day.
Needless to say, Diablo IV is high on their list of must-play games. It was only announced on November 1, 2019, so it’s probably not going to show up before 2021, but we can always hope it’ll arrive this year. Maybe it’ll be a surprise Christmas present.
Breath of the Wild 2 – TBD
Much like Diablo IV, there’s no set release date for the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Heck, it was only announced at E3 with the above teaser video. And you know how long it took us just to get the first Breath of the Wild.
Still, we can pretend it might show up this coming October, just three years after the original. Open-world Zelda games are something we never thought we’d have and something we cannot live without.
What’s going on under the castle? Will Ganon ever truly be defeated in the kingdom of Hyrule? Will Navi make a triumphant, annoying return? We’ll just have to wait and find out!
