The year that we fans had to watch Gary Oldman die twice
We spent one year with Gary Oldman characters either actually dying or seemingly so and to be quite honest, it was not fair to those of us who were Sirius Black fans.
Gary Oldman brought Sirius Black to life while also starring in Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy. The problem? There was one year where we watched Gary Oldman die twice. In July of 2007, Sirius Black fell back into the veil and Harry Potter was left without his father figure yet again. Then, in July of 2008, Jim Gordon was seemingly killed in battle by the Joker.
Luckily, Jim Gordon ended up being fine but, for a moment, there was a fear that we were watching Gary Oldman die again and as a Sirius Black fan, it was extremely hard to watch and not cry. To this day, I still don’t really know what happens after he dies because I’m sobbing.
So, how did we survive that year? Basically with pretending like Sirius Black was hanging out with James Potter but still, it was, to me, a hilarious trend in our movies that we just chose for Gary Oldman to die or at least pretend to die in movies for a year.
It goes to the strange way Hollywood works and how there can be multiple things featuring the same trend. Like that year every movie had someone have a ringing ear sensation after an explosion. The summer of 2007 to the summer of 2008 just featured Gary Oldman dying and my Sirius Black loving heart couldn’t really take much more of it.
