Many major franchises saw endings in 2019, including Marvel, Star Wars, and Game of Thrones. Which finale was the best?

When it comes to pop culture in 2019, one thing that immediately stands out is how many major franchises saw endings this year. Avengers: Endgame brought Marvel’s Infinity Saga to a close (though, technically, Spider-Man: Far From Home gave us the true closure we needed), The Rise of Skywalker rounded outThe Skywalker Saga, and Game of Thrones saw its final season.

With so many characters and stories to say farewell to, it’s been a tough year on fans — especially the ones who didn’t necessarily love how their favorite stories ended. Both the Game of Thrones series finale and The Rise of Skywalker, in particular, have been controversial and heavily debated. And even Endgame has seen its share of negative feedback.

But regardless of where fans stand on each of these finales, it’s hard to deny that they more or less defined 2019. The past decade of entertainment had been building to them, after all, and they mark the beginning of a new era for all three franchises. But before we lay the three of them to rest heading into 2020, we’re going to see how they compared to one another.

Here are the three biggest finales of the year, ranked from the worst to the best.
