Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is being used to explain the problem of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker
By Callum Gunn
Who would have thought a stage production for the Wizarding World of Harry Potter would be the perfect example for explaining the problem of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is dominating theaters, but it is far from a perfect movie. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is being used to explain the problem fans have with the blockbuster movie and it is truly spot on the money.
Warning for all of those who have not yet seen the latest Star Wars movie or Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. We are about to get into spoiler territory here.

Prior to the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker the debate among fans was who is Rey?, Is she a Skywalker?, A Kenobi?, etc. An answer was given, sort of, in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but come the latest installment of the franchise, we have since come to learn that Rey, is in fact, a Palpatine.
That’s right. Emperor Palpatine, the ultimate bad guy, the king of manipulation and trickery in Star Wars, got busy!
It’s something that has been fully accepted by some fans, but for other, it’s, shall we say, become icky. The idea of Emperor Palpatine getting busy and producing children has weirded out a large chunk of the fandom, which, considering it is a natural part of life, is a bit odd, but hey ho, that’s the way it is.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, if you have seen the stage production or read the screenplay, has the exact same problem. We learn in the eighth chapter of the Harry Potter story that Lord Voldemort had a child with Bellatrix Lestrange.
It’s a moment in the Wizarding World story that received a similar reaction to what the Star Wars fandom has had with Rey being a Palpatine. Why? Why do this? Was it really necessary?
Well, Star Wars fans are not going to be getting an answer anytime soon if Harry Potter fans are anything to go by. Fans of the Wizarding World are still debating the idea of Voldemort being a dad and how they feel about the idea as a while and it’s been several years since the production was released to the world.
So, don’t be surprised if Star Wars fans are still talking about Palpatine being a dad many years from now and how the idea is still…icky.
