While we loved them as kids, it is important to recognize that when it comes to the Harry Potter movies, they’re not necessarily better than the books we read first.

The Harry Potter series is often split between fans of the movies and fans of the books but we should probably talk about why that divide seems so deep. For years, we’d all flee to the midnight premiere of the new movies and we’d often talk about the joy the movies gave us.

But then, when you stop and watch the movies versus what the books are like, there is a stark difference and many things are left out of the movies. Personally, I think I just filled in the information myself because I had read the books but if you didn’t read them, you probably didn’t know the significance of a great many things.

All that being said, I think fans of just the movie ended up learning what they were missing out from fans of the books. The Marauders were never even named in the films but many fans of those movies know that they’re Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, Peter Pettigrew, and James Potter. It’s all because we, as a fandom, love these characters enough to all openly talk about these characters.

Still, we don’t know whether or not we liked the movies because they were part of this series we like or because they were actually good. That joy still is there when we’re watching them so maybe they’re just movies we love because they’re Harry Potter movies but who can say.
