It’s official: Deadpool 3 is in the works at Marvel Studios
A third Deadpool installment has been up in the air for a while now, but Ryan Reynolds has confirmed that the movie is in the works at Marvel Studios.
The future of Marvel in general has been a bit up in the air since Phase 3 ended earlier this year, but in particular, the future of Deadpool has been iffy, particularly after Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox. Fans were left wondering if and when they’d see their favorite foul-mouthed mercenary again, but there’s good news on that count: Ryan Reynolds has confirmed that a Deadpool 3 is already in the works at Marvel Studios.
In an interview on Live With Kelly and Ryan, Reynolds admitted that he’s working on Deadpool 3 with Marvel Studios currently — meaning Deadpool definitely has a future among all the other heroes, even if that future is much further down on Marvel’s movie timeline.
“Yeah, we’re working on it right now with the whole team,” Reynolds said. “We’re over at Marvel now, which is like the big leagues all of a sudden. It’s kind of crazy. So yeah. We’re working on it.”
His statement is vague enough that it’s still unclear how far along Marvel Studios is with the project, though it’s comforting to know we’ll see Reynolds take up his katanas and vulgar sense of humor at least one more time. Given that the franchise plans to reboot the X-Men storylines at some point, it’s possible Deadpool 3 could segue into new X-Men movies as well.
As for when we’ll see the movie, it could be toward the end of Phase 4 or even into Phase 5. We’ll have to wait for further updates in regard to timeline, plot, and even the rating (whether it will still be rated R is unknown). But, for now, it’s enough to know we’re getting a Deadpool 3 at all.
