With recent comments and the changing landscape online, it can be hard to rally behind some of our favorite creatives so is it possible to separate Harry Potter from the artist?

This week has been rough for fans of the Harry Potter series. Not to get into what really happened because many may be on her side, but J.K. Rowling said comments that were not acceptable and many called her out on Twitter.

But the comments brought up a conversation that isn’t old and still hasn’t really been looked at. For many, we love properties and then find out that those who created the work may not be great people and we suddenly have to try and understand how to either live without giving our attention to something we’ve always loved or do we just make it clear we don’t support the creator.

Whatever the case may be, it is a precarious situation because there are so many bad things in this world today, do we have to support something we once loved even though we know the person behind it might not be that great? It’s going to be interesting to see how fans, in the future, deal with art and the artist and right now, it is a conversation we all have to have. Rowling’s comments were extremely disappointing and still supporting Harry Potter after them is going to be hard to do knowing what she supports.

That being said, Potter is part of our childhood and it is something we’ll have to figure out for ourselves.
