Let’s talk about the Marauders and how their ages were wrong in the movies

Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs were very young when James and Lily died so why were the Marauders all in their late 40s during the movies for Harry Potter?

Sirius Black was played by Gary Oldman in the Harry Potter series and while I love him, the Marauders were supposed to be about 39 at the oldest and that’s when Harry Potter was graduating from Hogwarts.

So why then did the movies decide that the Marauders needed to be in their 40s during the films? Were their 30s not aged enough? In the books, James and Lily Potter die when they are roughly 20 years old which means that when Harry Potter is 18, that would make the remaining Marauders about 38/39 depending.

Instead, Gary Oldman was 46 years old when The Prisoner of Azkaban movie came out. I have to ask, why? What about an older core group of Marauders seemed more interesting? Was Peter Pettigrew’s betrayal that much more significant to the casting directors if he was around 30 years old when it took place?

To be quite honest, I wish we had age appropriate Marauders. That would make Sirius continually mistaking Harry for James that much more prominent because they were not entirely that different in age.

Alas, someone on the creative side decided that, instead, Harry would be funny around with a man who was nearly 50 years old and acting as if he was his father. Which is fine, I loved Oldman as Sirius Black. I just wish that I knew why someone had a problem with the ages of the Marauders.

Next. Let’s talk about how the Marauders are never named in the Harry Potter series. dark
