A new season of Project Runway is ready for blast off. With a new batch of designers ready to make fashion history, who is ready to make some fashion firsts?
Fashion fans are excited for the new season of Project Runway. As the group of new designers look to make fashion history, will this season’s looks be fashion forward or fashion flops? Only time will tell.
According to Bravo, the Project Runway Season 18 premiere episode, “Blast Off” synopsis states:
"In the premiere of Project Runway, the competition begins with some twists right out of the airport gate. With luggage still in tow, the designers are greeted at the iconic TWA Hotel at JFK airport ready to take flight with their first challenge: to create an innovative look inspired by humanity’s continued push into space exploration. In a Runway first, these unfamiliar designers have to pair up and collaborate to make cohesive pieces that blow away the judges or they are out. Fans will also get a chance to own a piece of the designer creations when they vote on the outfits they like best."
First, the biggest take away from this synopsis is that the first challenge is a team challenge. Pairing two designers who know nothing about each other could be a fashion catastrophe. While team challenges usually bring out the claws, this first challenge is an interesting way to break the ice.
Even though Karlie Kloss said that “collaboration equals innovation,” that comment may not apply to Project Runway. Each of these designers are looking to make an impression on the judges, especially in the first challenge. Why would anyone want to compromise their vision in the beginning of the season? That idea could be ultimate disaster.
As for the space theme, this idea is more approachable than it appears. Just because someone is going into space, doesn’t mean that she will be wearing a space suit or a jumpsuit. No one wants to look like a fashion don’t while traveling through the galaxy.
Lastly, it is good to see that Project Runway is bringing back the fans’ ability to vote on their favorite designs. While this concept worked well in the previous season, it will be curious if fans vote for the look or the designer.
