Did you choose your own Patronus or take the quiz to see what yours is?
Your Patronus is important in the wizarding world and choosing it yourself can have more of a connection for you than just taking the Pottermore quiz to see what it could be.
In the world of Harry Potter, a Patronus can symbolize any number of things. For Harry, it was a connection back to his parents and, for us as fans, we can explore what our Patronus means to us. The problem? Some of us don’t like what the quiz gave us.
For me, it was a kind of dog and, while I love dogs, I don’t think that is what I would have chosen. I’m probably something more like a goat or some kind of lemur but, instead, it gave me a long nosed pup. That being said, the joy of the world of Harry Potter is that, for many of us, we choose where we belong.
So whether it is choosing our patronuses or choosing our houses, the series gives us the joy of picking where we want to go. Gryffindor is my house not because I really have outstanding characteristics of the house but instead because I chose to belong there and thus became what is typical of a Gryffindor.
So the same can be applied to every other aspect of this series. We love it because it was a part of our childhood and we get to be connected to it in the ways that mean the most to us. So, sure, choosing your own Patronus by taking the quiz is fine but you can also pick what you want and that’s amazing.
