Dobby is a free elf and we absolutely loved that for him
Remember when we all cried because Dobby was a free elf and then Dobby dedicated his life to protecting Harry Potter and his cause? Yeah let’s talk about that.
Dobby is the kind of character that truly pulls on the heartstrings of fans and remains with us after all this time. When Harry Potter was trying to get back to school in Chamber of Secrets, he was making it difficult for our favorite boy wizard because of his dedication to him and his struggle with Lucius Malfoy.
Luckily for Dobby and, by extent, Harry, the end of the book found freedom for our favorite house elf and thus our love of the character truly began. Lucius Malfoy abused Dobby in more ways than one and when he finally gets freed from the Malfoy control, Dobby ended up finding what he believed in despite the idea of the Potter series that house elves can’t have that kind of thought process.
There’s a reason that we still cry when we hear “Dobby is a free elf” and that is because we know how much he was dedicated to helping serve Harry Potter all on his own. Sure, there was a level of appreciation there since Harry is the one who freed him but there is a beauty for Dobby in helping serve against those who abused him for all those years.
Dobby deserved to be free and deserves to do whatever he wants and it is so sad that he lost his life to the fight against the Malfoys and Voldemort.
