Matthew Lewis had many Harry Potter fans believing that a sequel was on its way. It turned out to be a hoax with a good intention behind it.

Wizarding World fans were sent into a frenzy, believing a Harry Potter sequel was on its way. You can thank Matthew Lewis for that, who decided to use the hoax with a good intention behind it.

This wasn’t someone just spreading a hoax for the fun of it. The Harry Potter actor decided to do some good while having a little fun. He shared all about the sequel with the original cast members that would be filmed in 2020 with a link for everyone to find out more details.

That link didn’t take fans to a website with filming details. Instead, it was to a voter registration form.

If you clicked the link and found yourself completely confused, then we get ya! Most people outside of the UK didn’t quite understand what they were registering for—or in some cases, why they weren’t eligible to register. That’s because it was all linked to the upcoming elections in the UK.

Nov. 26 was the last day for voters to register. Unlike in some parts of the world, it’s not possible to register at the polls (Canada has that option). Voters have to make sure they’re registered by a set date so their voter cards can be sent out to them in time. Sadly, not everyone will register in time and celebrities have been taking to Twitter to encourage as many people, especially young people, to register as possible.

Fortunately, Lewis’ actions were taken as something good. While there were a few confused replies and disappointed people, the majority were impressed with Neville Longbottom’s seemingly Slytherin move that was actually very Gryffindor at heart. U.S. fans have even asked that he does it again next year to encourage U.S. voters to register.
