Exploring Hagrid and why he is one of the most beloved characters in the Harry Potter series
Hagrid may have been the unlucky grounds keeper at Hogwarts but he ended up being one of the most beloved characters in the Harry Potter franchise. Why do we love him so?
Rubeus Hagrid became a fan favorite in the Harry Potter series for a number of reasons. One of them being how much he loved and cared for Harry. In a series that seemed to fill Harry’s life with people who didn’t care about his well-being, Hagrid was a beautiful change to that.
But he was more than just the character who gave a crap about Harry Potter. He also was a fully thought out being who lost his ability to do magic at school because of Voldemort and he never managed to get it back. When you look at Hagrid as a character, it is sad. He was so happy to be there, so happy to be learning from the best, and Tom Riddle took that away from him.
Sure, he got to go teach at Hogwarts and that is maybe his gift for being unrightfully thrown out but there is still a level to sadness to Hagrid that he never really lets get to him. If anyone else was thrown out of school, they wouldn’t love those who did it or the school itself in the way that Hagrid does. But he’s happy there and that happiness is probably why we all love him so much.
He’s a beautiful character to explore and teaches us a great lesson. We can look at the good aspects of our situations, not just the bad, and cling to those and find happiness in unexpected ways, just as Hagrid did.
