Did us growing up with the Harry Potter series make older fans feel out of place?

Ever stop and think about someone “growing up” with something and feel old? Did we do that to older fans of the Harry Potter series by saying we grew up with it as kids?

Being a part of the Harry Potter generation meant that we grew up reading these books and watching the series. The problem is that, now as an adult, I realize that saying that you grew up with something can feel limiting to those fans who may be older as they’re enjoying it.

I was thinking about the Marvel Cinematic Universe and fans often say they “grew up” with it and I suddenly felt very old because I was well into college when it really started to get its stride. So, that feeling I had about the MCU made me think about the fans of Potter and how we may have made them feel the same way.

Does that detract from the story for fans? I hope not. I know that I found my own fans within Marvel and we talk about it and explore theories ourselves outside of the younger fans but also we now live in an era of connectivity with technology so we have a different way of communicating than they did.

It just struck me that the way I felt reading that was exactly what older fans of Harry Potter felt like and it was a weird sense of understanding that I never experienced before. So, for those fans that felt left out because of us fans who read the books as kids, I apologize. I get it now.

Next. Mad-Eye Moody and his tragic story that we never really take a look at separately. dark
