15 Grey’s Anatomy couples ranked on their relationship functionality

11. Owen and Cristina
Okay. Where do we even begin with this one? First, let’s clarify one thing: When these two were together, Owen was dealing with legitimate PTSD. He is not an awful person for hurting Cristina in any way. That, at least, is not his fault.
But even though some of his actions early on in his time at Seattle’s finest hospital can be forgiven, others can’t. Owen and Cristina had their moments, sure — most couples, especially on this show, have plenty of heartwarming memories. You can’t have drama without the occasional “awww,” right?
We have learned something important about Owen after all the time we have known him: The thing he wants more than just about anything else is a family. He wants a wife and kids and an average, healthy life. That’s not the worst thing to want, especially for someone who has seen and experienced what Owen has.
But as clear as Owen made it that he wanted to have kids with Cristina, she made it equally clear that she did not want the same thing.
There is a reason couples should have conversations like these before they make serious long-term commitments to one another — something these two did not do. They could have avoided a lot of pain and heartbreak if they had just had one quick conversation. “Hey Cristina, I want to have kids, do you?” “No, Owen, I do not.” The end.
Okay, so it never would have gone over that easily, but both could have established, at the very least, they weren’t even a little bit willing to change their respective minds.
