13. Teddy and Henry

These two were, legally, a couple. They were, by definition, husband and wife. Whether they were actually involved romantically is still up for debate. But overall, the whole thing was a giant mess that started out with plenty of good intentions.

Technically, Teddy only agreed to marry Henry so that he automatically got health insurance to pay for his extensive medical care. She wanted to help him, and knew that if she didn’t, there was a good chance he could die from an otherwise treatable condition.

And so they became husband and wife. But Teddy continued to date other men because they were only married on paper. Of course Henry fell for her and wanted them to have something more, but she continuously refused.

The whole thing was built on something that much more closely resembled a business partnership. I’ll marry you, you can have my health insurance coverage and continue to be alive, while I live my own life and date other people. She did do it for the right reasons. And she did continue to help him throughout his treatment when he needed it.

But she could have tried a little harder to support him emotionally. She never really got the chance.

She was truly heartbroken when he died, but that really served to show she should have just humored him and gone on a few dates just for the fun of it. It wasn’t like they hated each other. It would have made what he had left of his life much more special.
