15 Grey’s Anatomy couples ranked on their relationship functionality
By Meg Dowell
1. Amelia and Link
This may be one of the newest relationships to officially form on the show, but it very well may be one of the strongest we have seen on the show in a long time for that very reason.
Similar to Alex and Jo, Link and Amelia both have troubled pasts, but in very different ways. Amelia traumatically lost her father at a young age and survived addiction, plus much, much more. Link is a childhood cancer survivor, which affected his relationship with his parents and caused some anxiety when he learned he was going to be a father.
What makes their relationship work is the fact that they both came into it when they had both finally reached a good place. Amelia finally dealt with many of the hangups from her past and learned what she truly wanted out of a relationship. So when Link came along, the two clicked — not without a few bumps in the road, but that’s to be expected.
Does this mean they’re perfect? Of course not. A functional relationship is bound to have hiccups. That’s what makes a relationship functional — its ability to thrive despite the many roadblocks that come with falling in love and maintaining that love over time.
Parenthood and partnership will test Link and Amelia continuously from this point forward, especially considering both come from complicated childhoods and strained relationships with their own respective parents.
But more challenges at this point will likely only prove they can handle it. Perhaps they will be one of few romances on Grey’s Anatomy that stands the test of time and lives on, long after the show comes to an end.
