15 Grey’s Anatomy couples ranked on their relationship functionality
By Meg Dowell
2. Alex and Jo
Not every new intern who joins the supporting cast of this show gets a major long-term spotlight these days. Jo is a welcome exception, with a captivating backstory and stellar character growth from Day 1. When fans first noticed a spark between her and Alex Karev, they had no problem getting used to the idea that she would be sticking around.
There is more than one good reason Grey’s Anatomy fans can’t get enough of these two together. Their chemistry is about as close to perfect as you can get. They support each other and make each other feel validated and loved. But most importantly, it’s nice to finally see both of them happy in a relationship that is bound to last.
This may just be the most functional romantic relationship either party has ever had and managed to maintain.
Alex has been with many women in the past he likely never cared much for, even after Izzy left and he didn’t know how else to handle his heartbreak.
Jo has survived traumas of her own, not all that long ago finally breaking free from an abusive relationship with her ex-husband. We have watched her struggle through several attempts at making healthy connections with other men, but based on the current state of their relationship, it’s clear Alex was her endgame all along.
Now that we have watched their love survive yet another hardship — Jo’s depression and PTSD, and the treatment that helped her start down a healthier path — it’s hard not to put Jolex in the top spot here.
But there’s one other Grey’s Anatomy couple whose functionality simply cannot be rivaled.
