15 Grey’s Anatomy couples ranked on their relationship functionality
By Meg Dowell
6. Callie and Arizona
We couldn’t possibly make a list about Grey’s Anatomy couples and fail to include Calzona somewhere near the top of it.
Callie and Arizona were one of those couples everyone was sure could never fall apart — something that apparently happens often to romantic relationships on this show.
They stayed together through all imaginable levels of tragedy — including more than one near-death experience between the two of them. They grew together. They learned together. They laughed and loved and cried together.
They also weren’t always fully faithful to or honest with one another. And if you haven’t figured it out through this list by now, honesty and trust are some of the most important elements in a functional relationship.
Arizona and Callie worked because both were kind, caring, good-hearted people. They worked best when they communicated and spent time together, and worst when life’s challenges simply became too much to bear.
Like most relationships, these two experienced plenty of highs and lows together. Raising their daughter and giving her the best life possible was what held them together for so long. And even though it couldn’t save their relationship, it might have ended up being the very thing that would one day save it.
Hearts everywhere broke when the two of them separated. But the writers did give fans some hope and imply that the two might possibly get back together offscreen once both of them were in New York with their daughter again. So maybe in your own personal headcanon they are living happily ever after, after all.
