It’s Voldemort but you have to drop the “t” if you’re going to be fun about it
Ever stop and think about the difference in how Americans say Voldemort versus those in the Harry Potter series? It’s actually kind of fun because there’s suddenly no t!
It’s fun to stop and think about Voldemort now that we’re all adults but, more importantly, it’s fun to think about how we say his name. For many of us, we’ve been pronouncing the “t” for years because, well, we’re American. But then came Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and the question of the “t” got thrown at us and now, who is right?
When it comes to the English accent that takes over the Harry Potter series, it makes sense that the “t” of Voldemort would not be a prominent feature. That being said, now that the cast of Cursed Child in New York is made primarily of American actors, it is interesting to see how the “t” is still gone.
Sure, it’s part of the accent but then, at the same time, it depends on how you say it because even with an accent, the “t” is still there just not pronounced as prominently as we do as Americans. It’s just funny how, with this new cast, suddenly a conversation about the pronunciation of “Voldemort” is going around the internet.
To be fair, I’d say that either way, his name is still just as terrifying and brings on that fear of what is to happen when Voldemort is around because that’s the fear that will always come when we hear his name because we know what he’s always been capable of.
