It’s the Grey’s Anatomy episode we’ve all been waiting for: Will Meredith Grey lose her medical license forever?

Grey’s Anatomy has done everything it could so far this season to crank up the chaos. Pregnancies are plentiful, families may or may not come undone, and the show’s main character, after which the series is named, might never be a doctor again after her insurance fraud has landed her in scalding water.

Ever since the end of Season 15 — when Meredith Grey refused to let Andrew DeLuca take the fall for her crime and agreed to accept the consequences of her actions — viewers have been waiting for the trial to finally go down.

This week, it’s all about the hearing that will ultimately — or so we’ve been led to believe — decide whether or not Meredith gets to keep her medical license.

After weeks of watching her struggle to complete community service or show remorse for doing the wrong thing (even for the right reasons), it’s time to finally land the verdict.

We’ve seen her contemplate a future that doesn’t involve being a doctor. And we’ve seen a touching — and at points heartbreaking — focus on her family and her role as a mother to her three children. She has options. Her life, and probably the show, would not end if she could no longer practice medicine.

But will it? Would Grey’s really go that far? It’s really going to depend on her former colleagues at this point. Even if all of them put in a good word for her, it might not make a difference.

She’s made at least one enemy, though — her former mentor, Miranda Bailey. Whether out of jealousy or true feelings of disappointment and betrayal, this chief hasn’t shown many signs of being willing to forgive her former intern’s mistake.

But TV promos are deceiving. Things really could turn out okay in the end. Or not.

Will Bailey stand up for Meredith, or speak out against her and help to seal her fate? It could go either way. Join us as we (anxiously) await the outcome.
