There are just two episodes of Poldark left. And with the main conflict thus far (Ned) being sadly resolved last weekend, what more could the show have in store for us?

After everything that happened during last week’s episode of Poldark, what more could the series have in store for us? Knowing this show, it’s a lot. For one, Ross is still unconscious down a well for all we know. The preview — for once not giving a lot away — shows Demelza and her brothers searching for him high and low. But will they find him before it’s too late?

Again, knowing Poldark, probably yes. But there’s still the question of who put him there in the first place. Would Hanson and Merceron stoop to such a violent level? Well, they have done so before — and if their glee at the news Ross has vanished is anything to go by, they’ve most certainly got blood on their hands. Even George looks uncomfortable.

To be fair, it must be distressing when one loses their other half, their nemesis upon which every decision you’ve made for the last twenty or so years has rested.

But contrary to popular belief, not everything in Cornwall is about Ross (most things, yes, but not everything). For one, it looks like his nephew is getting into scrapes again. There’s the briefest of shots in the preview, which seem to show him getting beaten to a pulp, whilst Cecily sobs, and it’s really quite harrowing.

A happy ending seems even further away for these star-cross’d lovers, but it’s Poldark, and we have not yet given up hope. If Morwenna and Drake can sort everything out in a single episode, so can they.

Elsewhere, Tess is on the way to getting her comeuppance, orchestrated here by her own love rival, since she has decided to set eyes on Rosina’s latest Carne, Sam. As far we can tell, she has seduced him purely to be a nuisance; her levels of petty continue to astound.

Honestly, shall we just rename the show The Untitled Tess Game at this point? It’s a lovely day in rural Cornwall, and you’re horrible, Tess.

Fortunately, Rosina’s onto her, and she’s not afraid to tell Demelza what Tess and her dad have been up to down the mine (ew, not that). But Demelza might yet have bigger fish to fry, since henchmen appear to have descended upon Nampara in the dark of the night.

Caroline, too, bless her, is fighting battles, this time with her own jealousy. Dwight can be wilfully ignorant sometimes regarding his “calling”, so we are actually blaming him for this, since Caroline has too much self-awareness to let irrational jealousy flourish for too long, unfettered.

But that can’t be what’s making her horse rear, and when Hanson says “they” must be stopped… it appears he includes her in this, too.

With Demelza screaming, Ross missing, and Dwight neglecting, it does seem like Ned’s execution will slow this show down at all. In fact, quite the opposite — it looks like we’re in for a bumpy ride.
