The Guinevere Deception by Kiersten White

Kiersten White is quickly becoming one of the biggest names in the world of young adult literature, with The Conquerer’s Saga, The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein, and Slayer receiving plenty of attention — especially from fans of retellings. And White is releasing a new retelling this month, diving into Arthurian legend and exploring the world of Camelot.

The Guinevere Deception tackles the story of King Arthur’s wife, Guinevere — a character who’s all too commonly pushed aside in favor of male narratives, like Arthur’s or Merlin’s. White reimagines Guinevere’s journey to Camelot and betrothal to Arthur through a unique lens: The woman is actually a changeling, and she needs to keep her identity hidden no matter what.

As you might imagine, keeping her secrets might be difficult while navigating Arthur’s court. And although the Knights of the Round Table believe they can protect themselves and their land, it just might take more than that to keep Camelot safe from those who would destroy it.

The Guinevere Deception hit shelves on November 5, and it’s sure to appeal to fantasy lovers — particularly those who enjoy revisiting well-known stories from different angles. If White’s previous reimaginings are anything to go by, this one’s sure to ensnare us from page one.
