Riverdale celebrated Halloween in a way that is perfect for them, but this included name dropping one Katy Keene, who is getting her own series soon.

The Halloween episode of Riverdale was just as weird, creepy, and over the top as we could have hoped for. And while we are all about the bizarre on this show, what really caught our attention was the name dropping that happened early on in the episode. Not once, but twice, Veronica dropped Katy Keene’s name in conversation, and it was an unexpected moment that made an impression.

Although we have wondered how they would introduce Katy and her new series, perhaps being name dropped was not precisely what we were expecting. That being said, having Veronica mentioning her New York friend in casual conversation was kind of exciting, if unexpected. But, the way Riverdale did it made perfect sense, and actually worked within the context of the story itself.

Rather than trying to force Katy Keene unnaturally into the story, Veronica made it seem like these two were close friends who helped each other out regularly. And that is exactly how her name came up in conversation, by having Veronica throw out the suggestion of a Halloween party at the gym run by Archie and Mad Dog. The party would be a perfect way to keep some of the young kids in Riverdale from getting into trouble on Halloween night.

However, while a party could end up being difficult to put together, Veronica offered her help by saying that Katy could get them costumes for the kids to use. Even though we never actually see Katy Keene in person, just introducing her name was enough for now. And the fact that it seems Katy’s choices for Archie and Mad Dog included spandex superhero costumes made the moment that much more fun.

Perhaps introducing the spin-off by name dropping is what we needed to peek our interest and maybe we will actually get to see Katy stopping by Riverdale in the future. Either way, this was definitely an unexpected treat for those of us excited for the new show to arrive.
